This party at the Santa Maria Country Club was well after Christmas, but there was no shortage of fun and festivities. This group was joyful, friendly and full of life. The night started off with cocktails in the bar and then a delicious buffet dinner. As the Primus Lab employees were enjoying their cheesecake, the president of the company gave an entertaining and touching speech. It was evident that this group of people enjoy each other’s company, work well together and are proud to be prospering in a struggling economy. There was plenty of celebrating during the raffle drawing and gift giveaway. We watched as the winners came up and claimed their generous gift of items such as a flip camcorder, Wii Console, iPod Nano, gift card to various restaurants and stores, home theater, TV and so much more. The celebrating didn’t stop here; it carried over into the dance floor. This was a diverse group that enjoyed music that consisted of some classics, current pop and latin/salsa. It was fun to be a part of this celebration and we hope to come back again next year.

Andy and Meghan had their ceremony six weeks earlier in San Francisco. The newlyweds were beaming and had such an aura around them. About two hundred people travelled to the tent at Avila Beach Golf Resort to celebrate this couple’s new life together. They enjoyed three hours of background music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they mingled and enjoyed the beautiful afternoon in Avila. Mother nature was also celebrating with and honoring this lovely couple. It had been storming on the Central Coast for most of the week prior to Saturday, but it was blue skies and warm on this day. Little girls dressed in adorable dresses were kicking off their patten leather shoes and running around barefoot on the grass in front of the tent. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate love and the beautiful area that we live in. Congratulations Andy and Meghan!

I started off the day promoting the dance during the high school’s lunch period by providing music. Some of the students contributed by performing a few dance routines, and the Paso High Bearcats Mascots made an appearance. The Mascots danced around, rallied the students and got everyone pumped up for the big game. It turned out to be an exciting and nail biting game. The Paso High School Bearcats hosted the San Luis Obispo Tigers in a Varsity Basketball game and won the game by 1 point with less then 3 seconds on the clock. The victory was soon celebrated on the dance floor. The defeat of the Tigers really enhanced the energy throughout the night. Although the dance attendance was lower then expected, the students in attendance had a blast.

Dolphin Bay threw a fabulous party in their restaurant, Lido, to honor, thank and show their appreciation to their staff. The night began with an ongoing slideshow, cocktails and then Chef Evan and his crew provided an exquisite dinner for everyone. Following dinner a couple of the executive staff recognized and honored several of the staff that had shown outstanding performance in the past year. They were presented with a plaque, pin and a generous gift for a getaway somewhere in California. It was very apparent how close knit this group is and how much they enjoy each other. After all the formalities, the fun began. Not only is this a close knit group, but they also love to karaoke! Two of the staff started it off and before long the microphones were being passed all around the room. Not only did the sound of singing fill the room, but there was plenty of laughter to go around as well. A fun time was had by all!

We had the pleasure of joining forces with Bob of Phase 1 Mobile DJ by providing up-lighting for a wedding reception in the banquet room at Avila Lighthouse Suites. We used par cans set to fuchsia to color wash the walls around the perimeter of the room. The atmosphere of this reception was completely transformed with the use of 11 light fixtures. They accented and complimented the flowers and decorations beautifully.
Thanks to Nakamura’s Photography for providing us with this fantastic photo.

The Holland Ranch is an amazing place to host any event. The Holland and Strand Families threw a SURPRISE 60th birthday party for Chris Strand’s mother and twin sister. The twins were so surprised to see all the friends and family that had come to celebrate this milestone with them. The group had an abundance of energy and were ready to let loose and dance the night away. The play list consisted of golden oldies, motown classics, danceable rock and the music of today. It really didn’t matter what I played, they just wanted to dance and live in the moment. I’d have to say they definitely succeeded. I look forward to returning to Holland Ranch again in the near future.

We had so much fun being a part of this holiday party. The joy of the Christmas spirit was abundant not only during the event, but during set-up as well. The organizers of the party, Tony and Leslie, were a pleasure to work with. Everything was so fresh and exciting to them, and their joy was contagious. They made an excellent choice in adding decor up-lighting to the event. They chose the Enercon color of blue to color wash the walls and up-light the rock pillars in the Venetian Room at the Madonna Inn. The color really enhanced the room, complimented the other blue decorations and gave the ambience of a wintery day. The employees were given raffle tickets for some pretty extravagant gifts. Chris got to play Santa and announce the winners and help hand out gifts that contained things such as an iPod touch, a Tom-Tom, flip video cameras and a surround sound system. This was a lively group that was entertaining to watch on the dance floor. They had plenty of music requests that left them dancing into the night. They were enjoying themselves so much that they weren’t ready to have the night end at 11:00; they chose to add on an additional hour and keep the party going. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end…until next year!

When we were first told about the colors for this event, we were skeptical, to say the least. Turquoise and orange were the colors requested for the decor up-lighting, and when we walked in and looked at the table clothes, napkins and drapery, we were shocked at how well it all came together. The theme of this holiday party was a Mad Hatter/Scrooge flare with a Winter Wonderland ambience. The Venetian room at Madonna Inn was bustling with several event professionals all working together to make this party amazing, and amazing it definitely was. We provided turquoise color washing on most of the back wall with a warming orange glow around and behind the trio of Christmas trees in the middle of the wall. The stone pillars throughout the dining area had large olive branches attached to them which gave the effect of the “Winter Wonderland”; we up-lit these branches with turquoise. The effect it gave was magical and made you feel as if you were out in the middle of a snowy forest. The fireplace near the bar had a simple electric fireplace insert which gave a dull ember glow. We added to this glow by playing off the Scrooge part of the theme and adding a lighting effect that gave the fireplace a more vibrant orange rippling effect that mimicked a fire. We had a lot of fun doing the up-lighting for this event. It was exciting to see how the lighting can transform, compliment and enhance an already well decorated room.

We had the pleasure of providing Christmas music and lighting for a fantastic organization during the season of giving. Altrusa International is an organization of volunteers dedicated to community service. We have one in our area that serves the five cities. It was apparent from the joy of the volunteers how much they receive themselves from their gift of giving throughout the whole year. The group of volunteers put together a festive fundraising event in the Village of Arroyo Grande during the “Elegant Christmas in the Village” on the patio at Branch Street Deli. The Christmas Spirit was abundant with the families bundled up in hats and scarves sipping hot cider and cocoa as they listened to carolers and a bagpiper and strolled down the streets of the Village of AG. Each business in the village had something special to offer, but Branch Street Deli’s was by far the most impressive. Five separate businesses decorated and adorned a Christmas tree with prizes, gifts and other fun things. There were trees adorned with candy and cookies with gingerbread and other baking accessories to ones with gift certificates for manicures, pedicures and other beauty accessories. People came from all around to buy raffle tickets and choose which tree they wanted to win. There were passersby’s that were intrigued by the lights and trees and ventured in to check out what was going on. Some people bought five tickets and some bought nearly five hundred tickets! It was amazing to watch two men that bought an abundance of tickets line them up on a picnic table and stamp them one by one then tear them and place them into the five coffee cans. Some of hopeful winners stuck around until the drawing as they sipped hot cider and nibbled on cookies that the organization provided. Finally the time came at the end of the night to announce the winners. It was exciting to see the excitement as Melanie announced the five lucky winners and as they bagged up their beautiful trees and prizes.

Lynn and Marge celebrated their impressive 50 years of marriage by hosting a classy and elegant anniversary party. 125 of their family and friends joined them in celebrating this momentous occasion at The Monday Club. Guests enjoyed a lounge style setting during the cocktail and appetizer hour. After cocktail hour and dinner, Lynn and Marge’s four children each toasted, honored and paid tribute to their parents by sharing touching and complimenting moments of their upbringing and their parent’s 50 years of marriage. Once the toasting had finished Lynn and Marge had a surprise for their guests. They had a long time friend and pastor renew their vows. Lynn had purchased new rings and had a couple of his granddaughters bring them on stage. Everyone including Marge was surprised. After they renewed their vows, the oldest son’s girlfriend sang a song for the first dance. Open dancing then commenced and continued until the last dance. This was a fun anniversary party, and I was happy to have been a part of their celebration.
