Decor Up-Lighting Dolphin Bay Tent – October 15,2010

This was our first time doing lighting in the tent at Dolphin Bay Resort and we were thrilled with the results! We’ve done lighting inside The Lido, the restaurant at Dolphin Bay, several times and it’s one of our favorite places to work. We adore Chris and Denai there; they are so hospitable, accommodating and easy to work with. We had the pleasure of working with a fellow DJ and friend, Joe Labarbera of LaBarbera Sound. Cari and Marty (the bride and groom) had requested an amber candlelight glow during dinner, but they didn’t want it to remain that all night long, this couple was romantic, but also fun, energetic, and creative. During their first dance, we faded the amber out and then faded it into a vibrant blue. The reaction of the guests during this was described as all the air being sucked out of the room when the amber was faded out and then it being filled back up again with “ooo’s” and “aaah’s” as the blue filled the room. We also pinspotted their cake. This made such a dramatic difference as it was pretty dark in the area where the cake was. During the rest of the formalities and the night, we faded the lights into various shades of blues and greens. When it was time for the real party to begin – open dancing – we set the lights to an auto-fade, where they faded in and out of eight different shades of blue and green every 15 to 20 seconds. The bride and groom were so entertaining to watch. They performed several funny and creative dances, and it was so evident how perfect for each other and in love they are. Their friends and family were just as fun, energetic and entertaining to watch. This was by far one of our favorite lighting events we’ve done.

Dolphin Bay Decor Up-lighting & Gobo – October 2, 2010

The Dolphin Bay Resort located in Shell Beach is one of the newest resorts here on the Central Coast. It is on the cliffs overlooking the coastline of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. In the Lido restaurant on the property is where some of the wedding receptions are held. We were hired to decor up light the sweetheart table and project a custom gobo of Lindsey & Wesley’s names with their wedding date on the dance floor of the Lido. That just didn’t seem like enough, so we grabbed a few extra fixtures and extended the lighting to a few areas around the dance floor and under the cake table as well. The bride, Lindsey, requested purple as the color for the lighting, and that color looked spectacular on the walls and under the tables. The decor is already artsy and hip at the Dolphin Bay, but the purple lighting gave it that little extra flare that it needed and complimented the already present decor perfectly.

Dave & Diana Miller Wedding – August 15, 2010

This wedding and reception took place on the elegant coastal property of the Dolphin Bay Resort. There’s not much that compares to exchanging vows on the cliffs of Shell Beach with the melodic sound of waves crashing as the sun sets into the magnificent Pacific Ocean and Avila Hills. This was a very intimate wedding with a group of about forty guests. Dave and Diana chose a string quartet to play during their ceremony and cocktail hour which coincided perfectly with the elegance of the surroundings. It was a warm, beautiful night, so we decided to have the formal dances under the stars on the patio and then invited the guests inside for the remainder of the dancing. This wedding and reception was a pleasure to be a part of; I always enjoy and look forward to doing events at Dolphin Bay. This was a beautiful beginning to a life together, and I wish Dave and Diana the best that their life has to offer.

Dolphin Bay’s Team Party – January 13, 2010

Dolphin Bay threw a fabulous party in their restaurant, Lido, to honor, thank and show their appreciation to their staff. The night began with an ongoing slideshow, cocktails and then Chef Evan and his crew provided an exquisite dinner for everyone. Following dinner a couple of the executive staff recognized and honored several of the staff that had shown outstanding performance in the past year. They were presented with a plaque, pin and a generous gift for a getaway somewhere in California. It was very apparent how close knit this group is and how much they enjoy each other. After all the formalities, the fun began. Not only is this a close knit group, but they also love to karaoke! Two of the staff started it off and before long the microphones were being passed all around the room. Not only did the sound of singing fill the room, but there was plenty of laughter to go around as well. A fun time was had by all!

Mike & Julia Mellinger Wedding – October 11, 2009

After meeting on site at The Dolphin Bay with this adorable couple a month ago, we couldn’t wait to do this wedding and reception, especially considering that Julia originally had October 10th as her date, but moved it to the 11th because I was booked on the 10th. The upbeat and fun personalities of Mike and Julia was a guarantee for a fun-filled day and evening, and they didn’t let us down. Julia was pregnant with twins, and looked stunning in her beautiful and flattering wedding dress. The glow about this couple wasn’t only because of the lives within Julia, but also because of the love between the two of them. One of the most impressive facts about this couple is the fact that they found each other through an online dating service. It was obvious that this was a true match, and it was refreshing to see that this avenue of dating does have it’s share of success stories. The radiance of the love of this couple was complimented with the sounds of the ocean and the sunshine at the ceremony on the bluffs of Shell Beach. The reception was held inside at the restaurant on site, Lido. We had the pleasure of doing the decor up-lighting inside Lido. We complimented the colors of the maid of honor’s dress and the flowers by setting and controlling the lights with the colors of fuschia and a peachy orange. The reception started with all the lights set to fushia and the room glowed with this color until the festivities began. We then faded the fushia into the peachy orange. During the dancing we faded into a combo of the two colors. Throughout the rest of the night we continued to fade in and out of these colors and during open dancing the lights flashed to the beat of the music. It was a nice addition to the flowers and other decorations and added a warm ambience to the venue. Mike and Julia mentioned several times how pleased they were with the lighting and were happy that they decided to make this an addition to their decorations. The reception was upbeat; adults and kids of all ages were laughing, dancing and living in the joy of this occasion. Everyone was having such a great time that the Mellingers decided to add another half hour of dancing to their night; it just didn’t seem right to end it when everyone was having such a great time! This was an enjoyable event on all levels, and we feel honored to have been a part of it. Thank you Mike and Julia and best of luck on your future as a couple and as the parents of twins.

Having a destination wedding could have been a bit stressful but Chris was wonderful from the moment we first spoke over the phone till the wedding day! Tony & Colleen Wong Wedding – August 2, 2009

It was a calm and beautiful day at The Dolphin Bay Resort in Shell Beach. The name of this venue couldn’t have been more appropriate as there were dolphins surfing the waves off in the distance as I set up for the event. I had the pleasure of spending two days in a row on the cliffs of this magnificent section of the Central Coast. I was next door at The Cliffs Resort yesterday and here today. Life doesn’t get much better than this! This was an especially fun event because I felt so connected with the couple and some of the guests. I was the DJ for one of the couples present 2 years ago, and I went to school with another one of the guests and have the pleasure of DJing his wedding next Saturday at Madonna Inn. The ceremony had a brief comedic moment as the best man pretended that he had lost the rings. He flusteredly patted and searched his pockets in a desperate search to locate the “missing rings.” Tony and Barbara Koenig, the officiant, joked and played along until the best man found them right where he had safely placed them. The well illuminated reception area inside Dolphin Bay was a perfect reflection of the demeanor of the couple, family and friends that were there celebrating. The love connection between Tony and Colleen beamed from them and guest after guest commented on the beauty of their glow. The warmth of this love and merriment was infectious throughout the entire room and evening. Dan from Mike Larson Photography had a photo booth on site which was a smashing hit and the prints made for a memorable token of this happy occasion. I even had the opportunity to step inside the photo booth and take some pictures with the bride. The central coast sunset awed the guests and made for an amazing photo opportunity. I left this event with a sensation of joy and am so thrilled to have been a part of the beginning of this happy couple’s life together.

Adam & Jennifer Jones Wedding – July 18, 2009

It never ceases to amaze me how diversely magnificent the Central Coast is. The western beauty of the ocean cliffs takes the breath away of every guest at a wedding venue such as The Cliffs Resort or Dolphin Bay Resort. Our majestic live oaks at sites like Tiber Canyon and the Huasna Valley offer a more earthy ambience. The numerous wineries such as Edna Valley Vineyard or Fess Parker Winery host a more sophisticated and elegant atmosphere. Last but certainly not least, there’s our impressive hills which not only offer recreation for hikers and campers, but also are the perfect backdrop for a rustic outdoor wedding. Holland Ranch (this link isn’t their official site, but gives a full review of this venue) is the ideal location for such a wedding. Adam and Jennifer exchanged their vows under a unique archway with the spectacular view of the rolling hills of San Luis Obispo behind them. Their reception was held on the patio and in the ranch-style barn on the premises. A sparkler lined walkway to the limo was a remarkable and memorable way to end the evening and send the blissful couple on their honeymoon and new life together.

Tyler & Randi Colace Wedding – April 4th, 2009

This event took place at The Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa on the breathtaking cliffs of Shell Beach. The setting was amazing with ideal weather. The infamous beach fog was nonexistent and the sounds of the ocean below made the ceremony all the more perfect. This was my first time at this new venue, and it was an exciting and enjoyable experience. The staff helped make the event seem effortless and flawless. They were easy to work with and were on top of everything. The guests were energetic, joyful and full of life, and it was contagious to everyone involved, including me. They danced for three hours straight! Good times were had all around. I look forward to the next event like this one.
