Holland Ranch Wedding & Lighting – September 3, 2011

A huge “Thank You!!” to Jonathan Roberts of Bluephoto Wedding Photography for these amazing photos.

Every wedding and reception is special and memorable at the Holland Ranch in San Luis Obispo. Shannon and Ryan added to the uniqueness of this venue by bringing in a few extras. One of these “extras” was the Enjoy Cupcakes trailer. As their website says, “Guests will ENJOY treats served out of an adorable restored vintage Shasta trailer…twinkling lights, a festive canopy & a wafting sweet smell will make your event unique & unforgettable.” They definitely accomplished this. Another extra was the lighting they had us provide in various areas outside. We did amber up-lighting on a couple of the trees and other landscaping along the driveway (as seen as the backdrop in the antique car photo) and also on the front of the barn. This was the first time we did full lighting at the Holland Ranch and the effects were elegant and dramatic. The last “extra” we’re highlighting is the gorgeous and pristine Cadillac that Ryan and Shannon drove away in as they started their new life together. What a perfect finale to an absolutely perfect celebration! Congratulations to this beautiful couple!

Holland Ranch Wedding – August 13, 2011

Another one of our absolute favorite places to work is Holland Ranch in San Luis Obispo. It’s always a joy to work with Jamie Holland Strand and her family. It pretty much feels like a home away from home when we’re there. The area is absolutely gorgeous everywhere you look around the ranch. You feel such a part of nature as you look around at the cascading hills, the pond and the horses in the pastures. Melinda and Greg had their ceremony down under the arch with a magnificent mountain as their backdrop. Everyone came up to the barn area and had cocktail hour and dinner outside on the patio under the venetian lighting. They were entertained with live music by one of the couple’s friends who is a very talented singer and guitarist. All his music was original and written by him. The celebration then moved inside the barn for the dancing and festivities. There was a bit of a baseball rivalry at this event. Greg and many of his friends and family are big-time SF Giants fans while Melinda’s family and friends were Dodger fans. Melinda requested Giants’ themed spin-off songs in honor of Greg’s side like the popular “G-force” song as “G-men” instead and “Don’t Stop Believin’” with a Giants twist. These songs were a huge hit and got everyone pumped up. This was a very fun and energetic group of people, and the dance floor was always full.

Adam & Erika Noyes Wedding – July 31, 2010

This was definitely one of the most unique and creative wedding ceremonies we have ever done. Adam and his family are drag racers and own a couple of really hot drag cars. In some cases brides and grooms will have their dog in the ceremony, not Adam and Erika. They had three of their 800 horsepower classic dragsters in their ceremony. While the music of AC/DC’s “Back in Black” was playing, Adam and his groomsmen drove the race cars down the driveway to the back of the ceremony stage at The Holland Ranch. It was impressive to hear the roar of the engines as you felt it in your gut at the same time. What a rush! The guests were so excited and chuckled as the song played while the cars made their grand entrance. After the ceremony, the cars were moved to be displayed on the lawn and a new 2010 Chevy Camaro joined the group. A new “head turner” was brought alongside the old. The reception was in the barn up the hill from the ceremony site. Adam had to keep with the car theme even during the garter removal. He rolled under Erika’s dress on his back on a mechanic’s creeper. Everyone loved it, this time the roar was from the laughter of the guests. From the introductions of the wedding party to the last dance, Adam, Erika, their families and friends had a great time. So much so, that they didn’t want the fun, dancing and celebrating to end. The family decided to extend the celebration for another hour. As if there wasn’t already enough excitement to go around, Erika asked for it to be announced that they would be leaving in the new Camaro that had been given to them as a surprise wedding gift! Wow! This was, without a doubt, an event to remember!

His enthusiasm really shown through as he walked us through the steps we needed to take to make our event successful. Ken & Taylor Taylor Wedding – April 10, 2010

From the moment I first met Ken and Taylor we had a cool personal connection. The bride had a unique thing happen on her wedding day. After she signed the marriage certificate, her first and last names became identical. This is one bride that didn’t have to practice writing her new married name before her wedding day! Such a fun and unusual coincidence. The wedding and Reception took place at one of my most visited and favorite venues, Holland Ranch in San Luis Obispo. The energy at Holland Ranch is always high and this fun group fit right in. There were plenty of big time dancers to keep the tempo and energy up the whole night. The outgoing wedding party was a huge contributor to this; one of the groomsmen sang a perfect version of the the song, “I believe in a thing called love” by The Darkness Band, and the guests ate it up. This group was having so much fun and were far from being ready to stop when it was time for the “last song”, so they went a half hour longer. The night did have to come to a close unfortunately, but this was definitely a night to remember and an amazing way for this lovely couple to start their life together.

60th Birthday Party – January 2, 2010

The Holland Ranch is an amazing place to host any event. The Holland and Strand Families threw a SURPRISE 60th birthday party for Chris Strand’s mother and twin sister. The twins were so surprised to see all the friends and family that had come to celebrate this milestone with them. The group had an abundance of energy and were ready to let loose and dance the night away. The play list consisted of golden oldies, motown classics, danceable rock and the music of today. It really didn’t matter what I played, they just wanted to dance and live in the moment. I’d have to say they definitely succeeded. I look forward to returning to Holland Ranch again in the near future.

Craig & Tracy Partridge Wedding – September 5, 2009

Being a part of events at Holland Ranch never gets old. Chris and Jamie and the rest of the staff there are such a pleasure to work with and help make everyone’s experience joyful and memorable. I started with providing background music during cocktail hour at the ceremony site. The wind was brutal and prevented Jamie from being able to put up the umbrellas and toppled over a couple of tables, but it didn’t affect the ambience of the surroundings. The mountain backdrop stuns and awes anyone and everyone that gazes upon it. The horses grazing in the pastures and the pond water rippling only enhanced the beauty of this ranch venue. Guests walked down to the pond and mingled out in the pastures with the horses as they sipped their cocktails and waited for the newly married couple to arrive. Dinner was served up in the barn and the guests ate out on the spacious patio and took in the spectacular view of the sun setting behind the mountain right before moving inside for the dancing and festivities. There was no doubt that this group knew how to party and have a good time. From the impressive opening toasts of the bride and groom’s parents to the full dance floor throughout the night, the energy and charisma was constantly flowing. There was rarely a moment during the open dancing that the bride and/or groom weren’t out there smiling, boogying and just having a fantastic time. There was an abundance of genuine dancing talent with the couple and several of the other guests. It was most apparent during Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” when several of the women could have easily passed as some of MJ’s dancers; they knew the dance step for step. It was quite impressive and entertaining! This was definitely a celebration of love and life, and I was thrilled to be a part of it.

Tommy & Lauren McCracken Wedding – August 15, 2009

Every wedding held at Holland Ranch proves to never be a disappointment and is always a treat for me. It seems that many couples that want a unique and fun-filled celebration choose this venue. The McCrackens held true to this statement on many levels. They chose Alphy’s Broiler for the food, and they did a fabulous job catering and the meal was delectable. They also hired a country dancing instructor from Cal Poly that taught their friends and family several line and country dances. The dances consisted of a Cotton Eyed Joe line dance, a couples barn dance and finally the popular electric slide. This was a treat for the guests to participate in or just watch the dance floor. There was plenty of “swingin’ your partner” and “boot scootin’ boogying” to go around.

This was quite the special couple who held true to the statement of “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!” For Tommy and Lauren it was, “When your wedding cake falls on the floor, shrug your shoulders, smile and eat it off the floor!” This was, without a doubt, a first for me. Lauren’s mom, Marnie, had slaved over making a very classy and elegant, 4 tiered, square-shaped cake for her daughter and future son-in-law’s special day. It was displayed beautifully on a scrolled, square mirror. As the cake was being moved, the mirror split and the cake tumbled to the ground. You could feel the air sucked out of the room from the shock of what had just happened, but quickly enough, the room was filled with laughter as Tommy and Lauren bent down, scooped up some of the cake and fed it to each other right then and there; they even shared some with the guests. It was a priceless moment to witness and vividly portrayed the unique characters of this couple. Some other brides and grooms would have looked for someone to blame and let it damper their celebration, but not these two! They made the best of it without a second thought. This carefree reaction of Tommy and Lauren was a look into the future of how much they are going to enjoy life and each other in the years to come.

Chris was a fantastic DJ. He utilized great equipment, provided an excellent service at a great cost. Prior to our wedding he met with us for a few hours to nail down exactly which songs we wanted. His announcements were that of a professional with years of experience under his belt, yet he did not make the party his own. Chris kept the party smoothly rolling along, we did not need to worry about a thing. A + Chris Thank you very much.
